The National Sports Authority (NSA) has condemned the shooting incident involving a Police Officer and a Kotoko fan which happened at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Sunday 12 January, 2020.

Happy Sports understands the fan shot is by name Kwaku Oppong and is currently on admission at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.

In a statement released by the NSA read,”Prior to the commencement of the 2019/2020 Ghana Premier League, the National Sports Authority issued a press statement to caution fans on possible sanctions that could be applied for misconduct at various league centers.

What happened at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium during the aforementioned match, which resulted in a fan been shot by a police officer is unacceptable and should be condemned by all stakeholders.

Checks by officials of NSA at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital indicate that the fan (Kweku Oppong), who was hit with four rubber bullets, is responding to treatment and is in a stable condition. Medical doctors who are currently attending to the victim have managed to save him from any life threatening situation by removing two of the rubber bullets.

In a related development, the Ashanti Regional Director of the Authority has written to the Regional Police Command to expedite investigations into the matter, to ascertain the basis for this unfortunate incident.

We wish to use this medium to assure the general public that appropriate sanctions will be applied to anyone found guilty in this matter, after full investigations has been conducted.
