Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association, Henry Asante Twum has indicated that the National Sports Authority (NSA) together with the Ministry of Sports were duly informed about CAF’s letter to the association.
The Ghana FA announced in a statement on Tuesday that CAF has removed the Baba Yara Sports Stadium from the list of approved venues for hosting international matches of category-A standard.
The NSA in a statement further debunked such claims insisting that there has not been any inspection conducted by the CAF in any of the stadia. The statement also shared that the GFA is yet to submit a request as to which stadia they intend to use for their CAF matches.
However, according to the GFA’s spokesperson, the details of CAF’s letter were copied to the respective sports authorities.

In an interview with Odiasempa Kwame Oware ON Happy98.9 FM’s “Wamputu Sports”, Henry Asante Twum said, “We got the letter from CAF on 4th April and made notice known to both the Ministry and the NSA on the 5th of April. We indicated that after we failed to meet the requirements before hosting the previous Nigerian match in the WC qualifying round, FIFA and CAF have automatically removed the Baba Yara Stadium from the list of approved venues for FIFA/CAF category-A international games which obviously invoked the black stars.”
“CAF inter-club competitions will also not be hosted at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium. Maybe they can only be used for the preliminary round but cannot be used for the group stages. We have notified them and what we have done is to engage the two bodies,” he added.
He further reiterated that the Baba Yara Stadium is completely out for consideration to host any of Ghana’s AFCON qualifications unless the 19 requirements made by CAF’s inspection team have been fully completed. However, both the Accra Sports Stadium and the Cape Coast Stadium can be presented for review.
