Fire fighters in Obuasi have successfully rescued a newborn baby boy who was dumped into a latrine pit at Kwameduakrom, a community near Ahansonyewodea in the Obuasi East Municipality of the Ashanti Region.

According to DOII Atubiga Matthew, the Obuasi Municipal Fire Commander, his team received a distress call around 10:30 PM on Sunday, July 20, 2025, and immediately deployed personnel to the scene.

Upon arrival, the officers swiftly initiated a rescue operation and managed to retrieve the infant, who had allegedly been abandoned just hours after birth.

“It was a delicate operation, but our team acted swiftly and with care. Thankfully, the baby was rescued alive,” DOII Atubiga told the media at the Boete Fire Station.

The newborn is currently receiving medical attention at the AGA Hospital in Obuasi.

Meanwhile, the incident has been reported to the Obuasi Police Command, which has launched an investigation to identify and apprehend those responsible for the act.

Authorities are urging the public to assist with information that could lead to the arrest of the perpetrator.
