For many years now the Musicians’ Union of Ghana – the umbrella organization for Ghanaian artistes – has been bedeviled with a lot of administrative problems, the solutions of which seem very remote.

Legendary highlife artiste who has expressed a high degree of ambition to head the Union in the near future, with intent to find lasting solutions to the myriad of problems is Okyeame Kwame known in the music industry as ‘Rap Doctor’.

Speaking in an interview with DJ Advicer on Happy FM’ s ‘Ayekoo After Drive show’ he said, “Soon, I will stand for MUSIGA president and I will carry the artistes to the heights they all want to reach. A leader can only tap into the assimilation of the people and find the middle ground of  where the people want to go and take them there, that’s the kind of leadership I want to introduce in the union”

He added that it is not necessary to join when we say lead doesn’t mean that musicians should join the union umbrella. According to him, MUSIGA has over four thousand members that’s is enough but what must be done now is for the members to embrace or adjust themselves to change.

He indicated that the main predicament facing the music industry is the copyright system. In ‘Rap Doctor’s estimation, there should be a database management system for all issues relating to copyright.

Okyeame Kwame also revealed that he has registered all his songs with Ghana Music Rights Organization (GHAMRO) and in any country that he feels that his songs can make business.
