Research conducted by the National Safety Campaign (NASACA) has uncovered a significant issue with traffic light functionality in Accra and surrounding cities.

Summary of their findings indicates that

– Only 13% of traffic lights in Accra are fully functional.
– Around 41% of traffic lights are partially functioning.
– *45%*of traffic lights are not working at all.

The research, conducted over a 59-day period from December 13, 2023, to February 9, 2024, visited around 200 traffic lights and focused on three main aspects: functioning, out of function, and partially functional.

Additionally, some traffic lights were found to be out of sight or invaded by hawkers, posing further risks.

The findings highlight serious concerns regarding road safety, maintenance culture, and regulatory systems.

It is important for authorities to address these issues to ensure the safety of both pedestrians and motorists.

The detailed report also provides specific routes and the status of traffic lights at various locations, emphasizing the need for urgent action to improve the situation.
