The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) embarked on a significant visit to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Department of Justice (DOJ) in Washington, D.C., to strengthen collaboration and capacity building efforts.

The visit aims to gain insights into the FBI’s organizational structure, operations and best practices.

At the FBI headquarters, the Special Prosecutor met with Jason Beachy, the Acting Assistant Director of the International Operations Division, and several unit chiefs. The OSP sought to enhance its understanding of FBI operations and explore areas of mutual interest.

The OSP also held discussions at the Department of Justice, where they were received by Arun G. Rao, Deputy Assistant Attorney General, and Richard Goldberg, Deputy Director of the Consumer Protection Branch within the Justice Department’s Civil Division.

The collaboration between the OSP and the FBI comes in the wake of the FBI’s initiation of investigations into the activities of former Sanitation Minister, Cecilia Abena Dapaah, and her associates.

The OSP had previously announced these investigations, which focus primarily on examining the assets and financial transactions of the former government official and her associates within the United States.

The OSP and FBI are working together to assess the lawfulness of the wealth associated with these individuals, both in the context of funds transitioning between Ghana and the United States.

Cecilia Dapaah made headlines in July when it was revealed that two of her house helpers were facing charges in an Accra Circuit Court for allegedly stealing substantial sums of money and valuable items. As a result of public pressure, she resigned from her position as Sanitation Minister on July 22, 2023.
