The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has announced investigations into alleged electoral corruption connected to recent internal party primaries of both the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
In a public notice dated 8 February 2026, the anti-corruption agency said it first opened inquiries into the NPP presidential primaries held on 31 January 2026. The probe, according to the OSP, centres on suspected vote-buying, vote-selling and the sources of funding behind the alleged activities.
The OSP further disclosed that on 7 February 2026 it commenced a real-time investigation during the NDC parliamentary primaries at the Ayawaso East Constituency.
According to the statement, the investigations generally focus on “allegations of vote buying, vote selling, and the sources of funding of the alleged corrupt acts.”
The Office also confirmed a separate line of inquiry following an alleged assault during the NDC parliamentary primary in Ayawaso East.
The OSP indicated that one of the candidates, Mohammed Baba Jamal Ahmed, is alleged to have abetted individuals to physically attack an authorised officer of the Office while the officer was executing an investigative directive relating to suspected vote-buying and vote-selling.
As a result, the Special Prosecutor has opened an additional investigation into the alleged assault of a public officer in the performance of his lawful duties.
The Office reminded the public that electoral corruption constitutes a serious criminal offence under Ghanaian law.
It cautioned that acts including vote-buying, vote-selling, intimidation, threats of violence and physical violence in connection with public elections are prohibited.
The OSP said the investigations are ongoing.
