The Privileges Committee of Parliament will today June 26, 2018, commence sitting to probe evidence brought before the Speaker of Parliament by Minority Chief Whip, Muntaka Mubarak on comments allegedly made by Assin Central MP, Ken Agyapong, against Parliament of Ghana.
Ken Agyapong is reported to have described Parliament of Ghana as a ‘useless’ institution for having Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu as its Majority leader. Ken Agyapong subsequently called Minority Chief Whip Muntaka Mubarak ‘dumb’ for reporting his conduct to the house.
Ken Agyapong went further to state that he is “not scared of anybody in this country”, adding: “I live my life and I’m telling you…you see they consume information and that’s a dumb statement he [Mr Muntaka] has ever made. He is a dumb MP and now I’ll take him on one-on-one”.
“Let him go to the privileges committee that I, Kennedy Agyapong, say he is a dumb MP because he did not even listen to the context of the issue and just dragged the matter to [the Privileges Committee]. Where did I insult parliamentarians?” he questioned in an interview with journalists in Parliament.
Ken Agyapong went ahead to promised a showdown at the Privileges Committee sitting if he is invited.
Meanwhile, Member of Parliament for Kumbungu, Ras Mubarak has said Ken Agyapong could be expelled from Parliament if he’s found guilty in a case filed against him before Parliament’s Privileges Committee.
“Far-reaching option is to call a vote on whether or not he should be expelled. If it gets there, he would be shocked to realize that even members from his side are very tired of him,” Ras Mubarak said on Citi TV.
