The Parliament of Ghana has announced the nomination of four Members of Parliament (MPs) for appointment as Deputy Ministers by President John Dramani Mahama, in accordance with Article 79 of the 1992 Constitution.
The nominees, whose names were submitted to Parliament for consideration and approval, include:
1. Dorcas Toffey, MP – Deputy Minister Designate for the Ministry of Transport
2. James Gyakye Quayson, MP – Deputy Minister Designate for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs
3. Mohammed Adams Sukparu, MP – Deputy Minister Designate for the Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations
4. Grace Ayensu-Danquah, MP – Deputy Minister Designate for the Ministry of Health
The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has referred the nominations to the Appointments Committee for vetting and report, in line with Standing Order 217 of Parliament.
As part of the appointment process, Parliament has called on individuals, civil society groups, and organisations to submit memoranda expressing their views on the nominees. This follows Order 217 (10), which mandates the publication of such nominations to invite public input.
