A urine test conducted on Kwabena Owusu Adjei, the self-styled pastor, who threatened the life of the EC boss Jean Mensa and the president Nana Akufo-Addo, has come out positive for tramadol and cannabis.

According to a medical report signed by Dr. Adwoa Nuru-Panin of the Police Hospital, Adjei tested negative for six of the drugs, except cannabis and Tramadol.

The General Overseer of the Hezekiah Prayer Ministries was arrested on Tuesday during a live interview with Hot FM at a ‘coded’ location in Accra.

He has been remanded by a circuit court in Accra.

While delivering his ruling, the judge, Emmanuel Essandoh, reminded Ghanaians about hate speech as it could land them in jail.

In a footage widely circulated on social media, the 56-year-old man said President Akufo-Addo, “would not finish his four-year term.”

He said the president would suffer a similar fate of his father, Edward Akufo-Addo who was overthrown as president of the Second Republic in 1972.

“There is no way he can hold on to this power. God is my witness, hallelujah,” Owusu Adjei, who was loaded with invective said in the video.

Amid the anger, his pronouncement was interjected with an occasional hallelujah and a spare audience responding ‘amen’ as he turned his missile on the EC boss, Jean Mensa.

He said: “If Jean Mensa thinks she was not born of a woman… and do another register, she should go ahead and do the new register.”

But looking sober in the dock, Owusu Adjei pleaded not guilty to charges of threats on a public official, offensive conduct and having in his possession, illegal drug.

Before he was remanded the judge, who spoke in the local Twi language said: “Talk is cheap but even as a child we are told not to speak against our elders or say things that will put us in trouble”.

“Although we have free speech, we should always be guided by what we say. All of us here must take note,” he continued.

The case has therefore been adjourned to June 23, 2020.

There has been an increased political tension in Ghana following a decision by the EC to compile a new register ahead of the general elections.

People’s National Convention Chairman, Bernard Mornah, NDC stalwart Osahene Boakye-Djan and Deputy General Secretary of the ruling NPP are all facing the CID for making what the police said “disturbing comments.”
