The Peasant Farmers Association of Ghana (PFAG) has taken a swipe at both the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC), accusing the two leading political parties of failing to deal decisively with the galamsey menace.
Speaking at a press conference organized by the Coalition Against Galamsey, PFAG President Wepia Awal Adugwala said the unchecked destruction of farms and water bodies by illegal mining poses a grave threat to Ghana’s food security.
“Many farmlands have been destroyed, and galamsey has become one of the biggest threats to our food security,” he lamented.
Mr. Adugwala warned that the continued degradation of the environment undermines livelihoods and weakens the agricultural sector, which millions of Ghanaians depend on.
He called for urgent, collective action from government, political leaders, civil society, and local communities to end the crisis and restore the country’s farmlands.
