Player welfare is not only about salary- Yahaya Mohammed

Aduana Stars forward, Yahaya Mohammed has explained that player welfare is not only about salaries but consists of other factors such as good accommodation, infrastructure, decent wages and many others.

The 32-year-old was speaking on Happy FM’s Sports morning show on the welfare of Ghanaian players.

According to him, the Ghana economy does not auger well for clubs to be able to meet the demands of players in the country. Thus clubs are unable to provide certain basic services such as decent accommodation, good wages, proper infrastructure including good training pitches and club facilities.

Yahaya Mohammed shared his experience in France when he played for Ligue 1 side OCG Nice.

He revealed that, the club ensured that players were taking in good and healthy foods which was part of the club’s policy on welfare of the players. This, he said a lot of Ghanaian clubs are unable to do because it comes with a cost.

Speaking on the issue on Happy 98.9 FM, he said, “Our culture and economy does not allow clubs to be able to pay players well. We should also know that player’s welfare is not only about the salary but we should look at the infrastructure, accommodation, diet and other things”, he told Ohene-Bampoe Brenya on Happy Sports on Happy 98.9FM.

“The economy will not allow any club to be able to afford or pay any player $1000. If Asante Kotoko cannot meet Songne Yacouba’s demands then it should tell you”, he added.
