The parliamentary committee tasked with investigating the leaked tape concerning the removal of Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, has announced that it will resume its proceedings on Monday, October 2. The committee, chaired by Samuel Atta Akyea, is determined to expedite the inquiry.

In a recent statement, Atta Akyea emphasized the urgency of the matter, stating, “The nation cannot be on this matter for too long. It has a bearing on the security of this country. The head of internal security, IGP, is part of what we are trying to interrogate, and we should end as quickly as possible.”

During the previous session, which took place on September 12, the IGP vehemently denied any working relationship with the former Northern Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Daniel Bugri Naabu. This denial prompted further investigation into the matter.

The National Security Minister, Albert Kan Dapaah, and the lawyer representing the Inspector General of Police, Kwame Gyan, met with the ad-hoc committee for an in-camera hearing on Wednesday morning.

Bugri Naabu also appeared before the committee, accompanied by his legal counsel, for further inquiries into the secret tape, which revealed alleged plans by three senior Police Officers to facilitate the removal of the IGP from office to influence the 2024 elections.

The committee has scheduled proceedings from October 2 to October 5, to conclude its investigation promptly and draft its report. The public eagerly awaits the findings and conclusions of this important inquiry into matters of national security and political significance.
