The Ghana Police Service has launched investigations into a case involving the interception of a Kia truck loaded with 36 sacks of substances suspected to be Indian hemp at Asesewa in the Eastern Region.

According to the Police, the incident occurred on 30th September 2025 when officers from the Eastern Regional Police Headquarters, Koforidua, intercepted the truck with registration number ER-760-23 on the Sekesua road.

A search of the vehicle revealed that while the truck appeared to be partially filled with sawdust, it was also carrying 36 sacks of dried substances suspected to be narcotics. The vehicle and its contents were subsequently taken to the Sekesua Police Station.

However, the Police disclosed that the driver of the truck and his mate managed to escape custody, abandoning the truck and its load. Efforts have since been intensified to re-arrest the suspects.

The intercepted truck and the suspected narcotics are currently being held at the Eastern Regional Command. The Police Administration has urged the public to disregard circulating media reports claiming that the 36 sacks of suspected narcotics had turned into sawdust.

Meanwhile, the Police Professional Standards Bureau has opened an investigation into the matter while steps are being taken to track down the suspects.
