A police officer lost his life and another was injured during a tense encounter with armed robbers in Ejura, Ashanti Region. The confrontation unfolded on Monday, October 9, as officers attempted to thwart a robbery of a local mobile money vendor.

According to a press release issued by the Ghana Police Service, two suspects, Alhaji Wahab Suleiman and Ibrahim Abubakari, along with an accomplice who is currently on the run, initiated a deadly shootout with police officers. The officers were on a mission to prevent the impending robbery attack.

During the exchange of gunfire, two officers sustained gunshot wounds. They were swiftly transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment, but tragically, one of the officers, identified as General Sergeant Ahmed Kamal, succumbed to his injuries upon arrival.

The suspects, Alhaji Wahab Suleiman and Ibrahim Abubakari, were ultimately apprehended by authorities, along with their injured accomplice, who is now in police custody. These arrests mark a significant development in the ongoing investigation.

A cache of weaponry was recovered from the scene, including two SB shotguns, one pump-action gun, six live BB cartridges, and one used BB cartridge. The police have vowed to continue their efforts to locate and apprehend the remaining fugitive involved in the attempted robbery.

The Ghana Police Service has extended their condolences to the family of General Sergeant Ahmed Kamal and expressed their determination to bring the perpetrators to justice.
