A policeman at the Akuse District Command and a civilian have been arrested by the Akuse Police in connection with an alleged robbery at the Star Fuel Station at Okwenya, near Somanya in the Eastern Region.
The police suspect, Corporal Gasty Yahaya Seidu, 37, and his civilian accomplice, Seth Kpornyo Dodzi, 35, a fuel station attendant at Sra, a suburb of Somanya, have been handed over to the Eastern Regional Police Command in Koforidua for further investigations.
Briefing the Daily Graphic at Akuse last Friday, the Akuse District Police Commander, Superintendent Winfred Asare-Nyarko, said on March 26, 2018, the station had information that there had been a robbery at the Star Fuel Station at Okwenya on the Akuse-Somanya road.
The command quickly detailed some personnel to the crime scene, but the robbers had fled before they arrived at the scene.
Supt. Asare-Nyarko said the police saw that a shelf at the fuel station where the sales were kept had been broken into and GH¢40,000, being the sales for the day, had been taken.
The alleged robbers were also said to have stormed the supermarket of the fuel station and taken away an unspecified number of assorted drinks and provisions.
Thorough search
A thorough search at the crime scene, according to the police, further showed blood-stains leading to the washroom at the fuel station.
After the door of the washroom had been forced open, the police said, they found two men identified to be night security men at the fuel station.
While one of the security men was tied with a rope, the other was seriously wounded, with blood oozing from him.
He said the police took the victims to the Akuse Government Hospital for treatment but no arrest was made at that time.
However, exactly a month after the incident, the police said two men, Seidu and Dodzi, suspected to be involved in the robbery, were arrested after some investigations had been conducted.
He said one of the suspects turned out to be Corporal Gasty, working with the Akuse Police Command, while the other was identified as Dodzi.
