The Progressive People’s Party (PPP) has strongly condemned the Electoral Commission’s decision to conduct a rerun of the 2024 election in the Dome Kwabenya constituency.

This criticism comes after the Electoral Commission (EC) announced plans to rerun the election at the Abokobi Women’s Development Centre polling station within the constituency, a move that has also been rejected by the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

In a statement issued on December 30, Nana Ofori Owusu, the PPP’s National Chairman, called on the EC to reverse its decision, describing it as “unlawful.”

“We call on the EC to desist from such acts as they are unlawful and amounts to an
unfair machination to twist the hands of the voters who have already taken time out
of their busy schedules to make their choices known on December 7th 2024,” they stated.

The party further accused the EC of attempting to manipulate the outcome of the Dome Kwabenya parliamentary election to benefit the New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate, Mike Oquaye Jnr.

“This bizarre decision of the EC is an attempt to influence the outcome of the Dome Kwabenya constituency parliamentary elections to favour the New Patriotic Party
candidate, who clearly lost to the NDC candidate,” part of the statement reads.
