President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has approved the elevation of specific districts to municipalities and municipalities to metropolises.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Local Government, Decentralization, and Rural Development (MLGRD), the upgrades were granted following a request made in line with the provisions of Act 936.
The municipalities that have attained metropolitan status include Ho Municipal Assembly, Sunyani Municipal Assembly, New Juaben Municipal Assembly, and Wa Municipal Assembly.

Additionally, Offinso North District Assembly, Brim North District Assembly, and Karaga District Assembly have been upgraded to municipalities.
