President John Dramani Mahama has emphasized the deep and historic connection between Ghana and Nigeria, describing the two nations as “like twins of the same mother”.
Speaking during a chieftaincy honour ceremony in Nigeria, President John Dramani Mahama highlighted the strong bond between the countries, with the exception of friendly rivalries in football and jollof rice preparation.
President Mahama was conferred with the title of Aare Atayeto Oodua by the Ooni of Ife, Nigeria’s spiritual leader, in recognition of his leadership and contributions to global cooperation and development.
During his speech, President Mahama joked about the competitive nature of Ghana-Nigeria relations in football and jollof rice, saying “Ghana and Nigeria are like twins of the same mother except when we play football and cook jollof.”
President Mahama stressed that despite these friendly rivalries, the bond between Ghana and Nigeria remains unbreakable.
He emphasized the importance of strengthening ties between the two nations, citing shared cultural, economic, and historical links.
