President John Dramani Mahama has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of former Kenyan Prime Minister Raila Odinga, describing it as a sad loss to Kenya, Africa, and the world.

In a heartfelt message shared on his official Facebook page, President Mahama extended condolences to Kenyan President William Samoei Ruto, Mama Idah Odinga, the Odinga family, and the people of Kenya.

“A sad loss to Kenya, Africa and the World! My condolences, President William Samoei Ruto, Mama Idah Odinga, the Odinga Odinga family and the people of #Kenya,” he stated.

Raila Odinga, a towering figure in Kenyan politics, was widely celebrated for his lifelong dedication to democracy and good governance.

Although he contested the presidency five times without success, his legacy remains central to Kenya’s democratic journey.

He played a crucial role in ushering in multiparty democracy in 1991 and was instrumental in the reforms that led to Kenya’s 2010 Constitution. His leadership during the turbulent aftermath of the disputed 2007 elections, a period marked by violence and deep political divisions stands as one of the defining moments in the nation’s history.

President Mahama’s tribute joins a chorus of condolences from across Africa, honouring Odinga’s enduring impact on the continent’s struggle for freedom, justice, and unity.
