President John Dramani Mahama today welcomed His Royal Highness, the Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Edward, to the Jubilee House, underlining the strong and friendly relationship between Ghana and the United Kingdom.

Speaking during the visit, President Mahama said the two countries share common values such as respect for human rights, democracy, and the dignity of all people. He also noted Ghana’s historical ties with the UK, including its independence journey and membership in the Commonwealth, and highlighted that Ghana’s legal system is based on UK common law.

On global issues, President Mahama stressed the importance of countries working together through multilateral cooperation. He pointed to successes like the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as examples of what can be achieved when nations act together.

He also warned that unilateral actions, conflicts, and protectionism are threatening global stability, and highlighted climate change as a key challenge that requires joint action.

President Mahama called for new partnerships, especially with the UK, to promote multilateral solutions and praised the UK’s leadership in tackling climate change. He said the visit of Prince Edward shows the continued strong bond between the two countries and provides an opportunity to strengthen cooperation in areas of shared interest.
