President Nana Akufo-Addo’s management of the coronavirus pandemic in Ghana has received rave commendations from Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Akuapem North, Dennis Miracles Aboagye

Aboagye is in approvals of how the government has handled the crisis since the first case of Covid-19 was reported in Ghana in the latter part of March this year.

The commendations by the MCE come despite contrary views from a section of the public, particularly from the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), that some the decisions by the President have been poor.

Speaking on Happy FM’s Epa Hoa Daben show with Kwame Afrifa-Mensah, “When he began, when he made this first speech, he did define for us the crisis; and it is important for every leader to be very clear in his or her mind when dealing with a case such as this. Your messages should not be mixed up, it should be clear.

He was among the first leaders to take a bold step to confront the situation and now we don’t have cases more than 500, the President has done well and must be commended for his good work.”

However, the Council of State has also heaped praises on President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo over his handling of the COVID-19 crisis.

According to the Chairman, Nana Otuo Siriboe II, even the regular updates by way of nationwide broadcasts “really brought encouragement to the country”.

On the economic front, President Akufo-Addo in his latest updates indicated that according to the Bank of Ghana, “the Ghanaian economy is recovering faster than initially anticipated.” Consumer confidence, he said, “is bouncing back strongly, and is today above pre-lockdown levels”.

The President observed that despite his government’s and the Nation’s success in fighting the COVID-19 pandemic, the virus remains something of a mystery, and we should always rather err on the side of caution, and continue to observe the protocols that have brought us to where we are.

As at today, Sunday 19th October 2020, the number of active cases stand at three hundred and ninety-eight (398), with forty-six thousand, six hundred and sixty-four (46,664) persons fully recovered from the virus, putting our recovery rate at 98.5%. The total number of deaths, tragically, stands at three hundred and ten (310), out of a total number of five hundred and ten thousand, and seventy-four (510,074) persons tested. The rate of death, 0.5%, continues to remain very low.
