President John Mahama has announced a new initiative to introduce a school curriculum focused on discipline and responsible citizenship, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education.
Speaking at the relaunch of National Sanitation Day on Saturday, September 6, 2025, Mahama emphasized the importance of instilling civic values in children.
“We must inculcate in our children the spirit and awareness of cleanliness. Teach the child the way he should go, and when he grows, he will not depart from it.”
He also proposed the establishment of sanitation courts in chiefs’ palaces to enforce cleanliness laws.
“I believe that in every community, there is a chief… we can have a sanitation court in every palace. Persistent polluters will be brought to the sanitation and fined so that we can have cleaner cities and towns.”
The president stressed that this move would complement not replace the responsibilities of district assemblies.
