The National Secretary of the Ghana National Association of Private Schools (GNAPS), Justice Essel has advised government to focus on technological and infrastructural development to improve education.
He believes this investment is a priority, especially with lessons taken from the COVID-19 pandemic.
On his accord, the collaboration between education and technology will lead to the proliferation of internet access and gadgets to schools around the country to improve teaching and learning whilst, bridging the gap between educational institutions.
“The government needs to promote a collaboration between education, communication and technology. They need to make internet accessible to all schools and also reduce the cost of laptops to school children”, he said.
With these infrastructure in place, schools can enter into a new age, blending virtual with classroom learning.
He made this known in an interview with Samuel Eshun, host of the Happy Morning Show aired on e.TV Ghana and Happy98.9FM.
However, Justice insisted the focus should not be limited to infrastructure but must include the further development and promotion of STEM (Science, Technology, Education and Mathematics) education.
After the COVID-19 pandemic hit the shores of Ghana on March 12, 2020, President Akufo-Addo had to take drastic measures for the safety of Ghanaians and this included the closure of schools.
With schools closed down, the educational sector fell on technology and innovation to continue teaching and learning but was not without challenges.
