Prof. Frimpong-Boateng’s claims on illigal mining cannot be overlooked – Apaak

The Member of Parliament for Builsa South, Dr. Clement Apaak has called for probe into the allegation by former Minister for Environment Science and Technology, Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng that bigwigs within the NPP and the Jubilee House are involved in illegal mining also known as ‘galamsey’.

Prof. Frimpong-Boateng in a recent interview with state broadcaster GBC alleged that he was ousted from his position to pave way for some NPP bigwigs to continue their galamsey activities.

Reacting to the claims on Happy FM’s Epa Hoa Daben Show with Sefa Danquah, the MP said galamsey is a crime and those involved must be punished.

“There must be an investigation into allegations by Prof. Boateng, a former NPP Minister, then head of the anti-galamsey fight, that “People in the NPP, people in gov’t and people at Jubilee House are engaged in galamsey”. Galamsey is a crime and those involved must be punished.

He added that “Ghanaians anticipate that the necessary state organs (OSP, BIN, CID) will demonstrate their allegiance to Ghana by opening investigations into the claims made by Prof. Frimpong-Boateng. These claims cannot be dismissed given his stature and prior role in this NPP government.”

Prof. Frimpong-Boateng claimed that most of the excavators confiscated from illegal miners had vanished in 2020, which sparked the issue about missing excavators.

He then sent a letter to the Police CID requesting that they look into Horace Ekow Ewusi, the First Vice Chairman of the ruling NPP, who had since been suspended, for his alleged involvement in the disappearance of the earth-moving machinery.
