Former President Jerry John Rawlings has rendered an apology to former presidents, John Kufuor and John Mahama, for insulting and calling them corrupt when he met with a delegation from the Mepe Traditional Area of the North Tongu Constituency last week.
Mr Rawlings described John Kufuor as evil and John Mahama as a rogue. He reportedly said he would prefer hell if John Mahama and John Kufuor were in heaven.
“I know with my integrity when I die, I will go to heaven but when I see these corrupt leaders, I will ask permission from God and flog them… If they don’t leave heaven for me, I will go and leave the heavens and join Satan in hell because I cannot stay in the same place with them.”
But now, Mr. Rawlings has said his words were inappropriate, according to a statement from his office.
“The former President apologises to former Presidents John Agyekum Kufuor and John Dramani Mahama for the choice of words. He deems the words as inappropriate and withdraws them,” the statement said.
