The Electoral Commission (EC) says some 30,000 people will not be able to vote in the upcoming December 7, polls despite participating in the voters’ registration exercise.

Deputy Commissioner in charge of Corporate Services, Dr Eric Bossman Asare who made the revelation said, out of the over 17 million people who registered, these persons have been disqualified.

But according to Political Analyst Dr Kwasi Amakye-Boateng –The information provided by the EC is woefully inadequate and needs more clarification. They said they’ve taken out some 14,000 names from the voter register and placed them on an exception list. What does that mean to the layman?”

He added that¸ “The 30,000 people removed from the voter register is a large number. We should be concerned about it. The people being removed from the voter register will affect the outcome of our elections and this might be a recipe for disaster.”

However, the Deputy Commissioner said due process was followed in reaching the decision to bar them from the December polls.

According to him, after their eligibility was challenged the regulatory body began the legal process, which was presided over by a judge to arrive at the decision to disqualify them.

He also discredited claims that an election in the country can be flawed.

“When you look at everything, you will know that a flawed election cannot be part of us. And when you look at the measures and mechanisms we have put in place everything is set.

“We have informed the parties via letters that we are going to print the ballot papers so make sure your agents are there. So a flawed election is not possible,” he insisted.
