Provisional figures from the National Road Safety Authority indicate that Ghana recorded 2,949 deaths from 14,743 road traffic crashes between January and December 2025, marking a sharp rise compared to 2024.
The total number of crashes increased from 13,489 in 2024 to 14,743 in 2025, representing a 9.3 per cent growth. Vehicle involvement also went up, with 24,938 vehicles recorded in crashes in 2025, compared to 22,975 vehicles the previous year—an 8.5 per cent increase.
Fatalities saw the most significant jump. Deaths rose from 2,494 in 2024 to 2,949 in 2025, an additional 455 lives lost.
This translates into an 18.2 per cent increase, making fatalities the fastest-growing indicator among all road crash statistics for the year.
Injuries from road traffic crashes also climbed during the period under review. A total of 16,714 people sustained injuries in 2025, up from 15,607 in 2024, reflecting a 7.1 per cent increase. The figures underscore the growing burden of road crashes on public health and emergency services.
Pedestrians continued to be among the most vulnerable road users.
Data shows that 2,561 pedestrians were knocked down in traffic crashes between January and December 2025, compared to 2,394 in 2024. This represents a 7.0 per cent rise, renewing concerns about pedestrian safety, particularly in urban and high-traffic areas.
