The Head of Protocol for the Ghana Scholarship Secretariat, Grace Afari Mensah has revealed that the secretariat has received more than a 100% increament in their budgetary allocation to ensure that more brilliant but needy students get access to quality education.

Speaking on Happy98.9FM’s ‘Epa Hoa Daben’ she said, “Over 30,000 people applied to the secretariat last year but this year, our budget has been increased by the President to support 70,000 students. We want to increase the accessibility for all and hope more people can apply.”

According to her, students can apply for both local and international scholarships. “The scholarship scheme is for both students in the local institutions and one can also take scholarships to study abroad. We are allowed to give schorlarships for courses which have not been adequately developed in the country. Courses in Artificial Intelligence, Science and Technology, Engineering and Maths are all areas students can get scholarships to study abroad and have been marked as priority areas by government,” she noted.

She explained that the scholarship covers only the academic user fees of applicants and that students can start applying from today.

Grace stated, “The application process has become easier now. Previously, one could apply for a scholarship at the district level but things have changed now. You can just apply in the comfort of your homes by logging on to www.scholarshipgh.com and upload the necessary documents.”

On her authority, Ghanaians can apply regardless of their tuition fees as government is ready to foot the bill.

Vice President of the Republic, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has launched the Scholarship Secretariat’s Online Scholarship Application and Administration System, www.scholarshipgh.com, in Accra.

Beginning April 1, 2020, in just four (4) easy steps, any applicant can apply from the comfort of their homes, take an aptitude test and be interviewed in their own districts without coming to Accra.

The launch of the Online portal is in line with President Akufo-Addo’s vision to digitize and formalize government service delivery processes, help to eliminate the inconveniences that applicants experience seeking government sponsorships and also help the Secretariat in proper and efficient administration of scholarships in the country.
