National Security Officials have informed event organizers on the important role they play in the enforcement of security and ensuring safety at events in this festive season.

Event organizers were enlightened on measures that must be laid down before additional support of the police force to ensure that events in Ghana are always safe to attend. “We are all part of security, we play the kinetic role, you play the civil role. What are you going to do with someone who pulls a gun?wait for the police?; ensure that there are no excuses when it comes to security; please make access control very tight, with security who are mandated to determine what goes in and what does not.”

Hosted by the Ghana Tourism Authority(GTA), the National Security engaged event organizers and tourism industry players at the Accra Tourist Information Centre with a detailed presentation of the numerous threats that surround the nation, and noted that events and events centres are the highest targets in this festive season. “We thought it wise to engage you because some of these bad guys find pleasure in causing harm and causing casualties and they target event centres and events with crowds and a lot of patrons.

Event organizers were also entreated to inform patrons by giving them information on what to do when any possible threats erupt within the course of the event. The national security operatives addressed event attendees to be vigilant and be on the look out for any suspicious behaviour exhibited by any one at the event. “So please share the message with your patrons at your events to look out for suspicious acts, look over their shoulders and ensure that they are always vigilant. Police officers would be at most of these events. In an event where you can’t get to the police officer in time please do not hesitate to call the toll free line 999. Create a security desk as another measure put in place to ensure that we are not taken by surprise by any attack.”
