The Senior Staff Association of the Volta River Authority (VRA) has urged the government to officially withdraw a proposed bill that seeks to merge the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Bui Power Authority, Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo), and the VRA.

This call comes after continuous appeals from VRA’s Senior Staff, who are advocating for a reconsideration of the merger plan, citing possible adverse effects on both the authority and the nation.

The request was made during a closed-door meeting between the Minister of State at the Ministry of Energy, Herbert Krapah, and the leadership of the Senior Staff Association of the VRA, where their concerns were discussed.

Speaking in an interview on an Accra based radio station Chairman of the Senior Staff Association, Theophilus Tetteh Ahia emphasized that the VRA will continue to push for a public statement confirming the withdrawal of the bill.

“The Minister assured us that the right decision would be made. We expect him to issue a statement as soon as possible today so we can move forward, continue our work, and safeguard the VRA. The VRA is a cornerstone of our economy and national security, and we cannot allow any attempts to dismantle it. We, the staff of VRA, along with the people of this country, are ready to fight for its survival and to ensure the continued supply of reliable and affordable electricity,” he stated.
