A group of Angry youth have launched an attack on the Gomoa Obuase Palace, rendering six people in critical condition.

The six victims, including the head of Gomoa Obuase Asona Royal family, Agya Amoah, are currently receiving treatment at the Swedru Municipal Hospital.

According to reports, the youth stormed and vandalised the Palace on Sunday, February 24, 2025, in connection with a chieftaincy dispute.

Two cars belonging to the Chief and other properties were destroyed.

The community had been without a Chief for the past five years after the demise of their substantive chief until the Gomoa Ajumako Traditional installed a new Chief.

Police sources indicate that Obrempong Nyanful Akrampah, Omanhene of the Gomoa Ajumako Traditional Council appointed one Kwabena Atta as acting Chief in consultation with Leaders of Gomoa Obuase.

However the Traditional Council failed to formally install Kwabena Atta as Chief and instead installed Nana Mbir Asomako IX. This resulted in a violent clash.

The angry youth pelted stones at the palace while the newly installed chief, Nana Mbir Asomako IX, and his elders were having a family meeting.

Nana Mbir Asomako IX, alleged that the youth pelted stones for over three hours before they managed to escape, and lodged a complaint at Agona Swedru Police Command.

He also claimed that the youth also attempted to set the Palace ablaze by pouring fuel around the building.

He called on the Inspector General of Police to beef up security in the community, especially around the Palace.
