Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Bagbin, has urged the church to get more involved in issues of government.
Bagbin insisted that the church declining interest in political and social issues has had “severe consequences” on the moral and social fabric of the nation.
He made this statement during a speech given at The Apostolic Church-Ghana’s induction ceremony.
“Please don’t leave the politicians behind; they are a part of the flock. We cannot keep closing our eyes, taking a backseat and relying only on your prayers to substitute discipline, hard work, and a sense of responsibility as patriotic citizens” he said.
Not disputing the power of prayer, he however stated that prayer without action is not enough.
Bagbin challenged the church to use it’s impact to advance social justice, effective government, and economic growth.
He also advised the church to speak out against corruption and other forms of injustice.
