The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has sworn into office two newly elected Members of Parliament, Bernard Bediako Baidoo for Akwatia and Professor Alidu Seidu for Tamale Central, pursuant to Order 13(1) of the Standing Orders of Parliament.

Speaking during the opening of the Third Meeting of the First Session of the Ninth Parliament of the Fourth Republic on Tuesday, October 21, Speaker Bagbin disclosed that the Electoral Commission (EC) had submitted the official results and relevant documentation from the two constituencies, authorizing the swearing-in ceremony.

Bernard Bediako Baidoo won the Akwatia by-election with 18,199 votes, following the passing of the late Ernest Yaw Kumi.

In the Tamale Central by-election, Professor Alidu Seidu was declared winner after contesting unopposed, succeeding the late Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, who tragically died in a helicopter crash on August 6, 2025.

Both lawmakers, representing the National Democratic Congress (NDC), officially took the oath of office during Tuesday’s parliamentary sitting, marking the start of their legislative duties.
