Speaker of Parliament wears face mask to amidst coronavirus fears

Speaker of Parliament, Prof. Aaron Mike Oquaye today, March 23, wore a face mask in Parliament as a means of preventing COVID-19. Other Members of Parliament present were also seen in face masks.

The House has been provided with Personal Protective Equipment including nose masks, hand gloves and even sanitizers to ensure legislators are safe from the pandemic as they conduct their parliamentary business.

Parliament recently ordered Binduri MP, Dr. Robert Baba Kugnanab-Lem and Ayawaso East MP, Mahama Nasser Toure, together with five parliamentary service staff to quarantine themselves for 14 days after they returned from countries with over 200 recorded cases of coronavirus.

Moreover, Parliament will be relocating to a more spacious place; thus the Accra International Conference Centre as directed by President Akufo-Addo and the Ghana Health Service to observe social distancing.

Ghana has so far recorded 24 cases of COVID-19 with one death.

Globally, 353, 239 cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed with record of 15,408 deaths and 100,605 having recorded.
