The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin has asked members to give him two days to submit a written ruling on the concerns raised by members to declare some seats vacant.

After going through past parliament experiences and reading through the constitution as well as listening to comments made by members earlier, he will do justice to the subject matter but he needs two days to present a well written ruling.

This comes after the Minority Leader of Parliament, Casiel Ato- Baah Forson presented an urgent statement as well as Haruna Iddrisu calling on the Speaker to declare four seats vacant.

According to the minority leader, Agona West , Suhum, Amenfi Central and the Fomena constituencies should be declared vacant since the members occupying those seats have filed nominations as independent candidates in the upcoming 2024 election.

Meanwhile, Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has filed an injunction application at the Supreme Court in response to the minority’s attempts to declare the seats vacant.

Members of Parliament shared their opinions on the decision taken by some sitting MPs to contest as independent candidates on the December 7th polls.

After a heated debate by both sides of the House on whether or not the seats should be declared vacant, the speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin presiding over proceedings of the House, stated that, it is a serious national issue and needs to be looked at critically..

He indicated that, he needs time to submit his ruling on the matter after going through past experiences and reading through the constitution as well as listening to comments made by members earlier he will do justice to the subject matter but he needs two days to present a well written ruling.

He indicated that the notice of petition served him by Haruna Iddrisu will all be addressed for justice to be done.
