Director-General of the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT), Kwesi Afreh Biney, has revealed that the Trust has recorded 2.1 million active members, with the private sector accounting for nearly two-thirds of contributors.
Speaking at the 2025 SSNIT Media Connect in Accra, Mr. Biney attributed the remarkable growth to digital transformation initiatives and targeted enrolment campaigns, particularly in the informal sector.
“As we speak today, we have close to 2.1 million active members. When we say active members, we are referencing people who have contributed at least a year,” he explained.
He further highlighted the private sector’s pivotal role in the Trust’s expansion. “We have over 96,000 private sector establishments, and currently, two-thirds of our beneficiaries actually come from the private sector.”
The Director-General emphasized that SSNIT’s digitalisation drive has not only improved efficiency but also made it easier for contributors across the country to participate in the social security scheme.
