President of Sports Writers Association of Ghana [SWAG], Kwabena Yeboah has expressed optimism that Kwesi Nyantakyi will seek for a fourth term in office in 2019 as the president of the Ghana Football Association.
The Wa All Stars CEO has been on record to have said that he will not seek re-election in 2019 when his term in ends in 2019 after assuming office in December 2005.
But after George Afriyie declared his intention to contest for the Ghana FA top post in 2019, some members of the Executive Committee of the Ghana FA descended heavily on him and described him as a traitor.
However, most members of the EXCO have made an open declaration that they will force the CAF 1st vice president to seek for a fourth term in office.
During an interview Ohene-Bampoe Brenya on Happy FM‘s Anopa Bosuo Sports, the ace broadcaster is adamant Mr Nyantakyi will declare his intention to seek re-election in 2019.
“Kwesi Nyantakyi have said he will not seek re-election in without anybody forcing him to do that but after the George Afriyie declared his ambitions to contest in 2019 it was obvious that he [Kwesi Nyantakyi] will seek re-election,” he told Happy FM.
“The reason why he has not declared to contest in 2019 is that he feels shy of doing because he has previously said he will contest in 2019 but with how things are unfolding, I can confidently tell you that he will seek re-election,” he added.
When asked if George Afriyie erred with the timing of his declaration, Kwabena Yeboah answered, “I personally don’t think anybody can fault him [Afriyie] for the declaration, forget about the timing.”
“When the president has declared his intention to vacate the seat, George has every right to declare his interest in the seat. It makes it interesting because as we speak Kwesi has not come out to say he will rescind that decision but people have started talking for him.”
“But if he will be within his right to do that. I will not fault him if he comes out boldly to say that I want to contest again. I think he will contest. Remember Alhaji Jawula came out some few weeks ago to say that Kwesi will contest, and I don’t think he said that in vacuum, he knows whats he’s talking about.”
