Authorities in Takoradi have uncovered a suspected kidnapping operation at New Site, Housing, Effiakuma, rescuing 25 victims from an eight-bedroom apartment near Takoradi Technical University.
The victims, who appeared malnourished and pale, were found locked inside with their belongings, talismans, and voodoo artifacts scattered around.
The breakthrough came after a young man in his late twenties escaped from captivity on June 1, 2025 and alerted locals.
With the help of Abdul Ganiyu and Assembly Member Hamza Mohammed Ameen Adam, community members mobilized to free the remaining victims.
Among the rescued individuals, six were women.
During initial police interrogations, five suspects thus four men and one woman were identified and detained for further questioning.
Authorities believe the victims may have been lured into captivity through a recruitment scam and suspect many of them are from Côte d’Ivoire.
The property owner remains unknown, and police investigations are ongoing.
