Tema General Hospital has addressed a viral video depicting its Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) in darkness, with nurses facing challenges caring for babies during a power outage.
In a statement, the hospital clarified that it was a brief generator trip-off. Dr. Richard Anthony, the medical director, confirmed the incident occurred on Tuesday, March 26, when the hospital relied on its power plant due to an interruption in the national grid.
Some social media users suggested it was a significant disconnection by the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), amidst reports of 91 hospitals being threatened over a GH¢261 million debt owed to the power distribution company.
The hospital, in the press statement, added that nobody died due to the technical hitch.
