The Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has appealed to the Ghana Health Service (GHS) to show leniency towards Ms. Bernice Aboagye, a staff nurse at the Nkenkaasu District Hospital, who was recently queried for allegedly making unprofessional comments about him on social media.

In a statement signed by Tony Goodman, Head of Health Training Institutions and Spokesperson for the Ministry of Health, the Minister acknowledged receipt of the query letter that has been widely circulated online.

While commending the Ghana Health Service for upholding professionalism and discipline among health workers, the Minister urged the Service to “temper justice with mercy” in addressing the matter.

According to him, both he and the government welcome divergent views and constructive criticism as part of efforts to foster tolerance and openness to diverse opinions.

“The Minister further urged all health workers to express their opinions responsibly and respectfully, without resorting to insults, as this contributes to the healthy growth and development of the health sector,” the statement read.

The Ministry emphasized that it does not oppose lawful demonstrations or the expression of grievances by health workers, describing them as legitimate constitutional rights. However, it cautioned against the use of abusive language or acts of indiscipline during such activities.

The statement also served as a reminder to all health professionals to exercise discretion in their public communications and social media engagements.
