National Organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Joshua Akamba says government is frustrating the work of the Special Prosecutor, and as a result, he has been unable to prosecute any case since his appointment.

Mr. Akamba said should government allow the Special Prosecutor, Martin Amidu, to function effectively; several members of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) would have been in jail by now.

The NPP is reported to have expressed worry over the seeming inaction from the Office of Special Prosecutor twelve months after its establishment.

According to the NPP, the inaction characterizing the office headed by former Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Martin Amidu, has heightened the public’s impatience.

NPP’s Communications Director, Yaw Buaben Asamoah is reported to have bemoaned how the situation is affecting public confidence in government’s anti-corruption stance.

Reacting to the issue on in an interview, the National Organizer of the NDC explained that “the aim of appointing him [Martin Amidu] was to come after NDC.

“If he found nothing, he should frame something against the NDC so that they will be prosecuted. But if he cannot do that, he should turn around and look at the corruption in the NPP”, he explained.

Mr. Akamba also wondered how government expected Martin Amidu to work when he has not been given the tools he need to work with.

“They are the ones who don’t want him to work because they are corrupt. If his office was to have been operational, the president himself would have been caught hands down,” he added.
