Nana Akua Afriyie, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) parliamentary candidate for Ablekuma North, has strongly condemned the violence that erupted during the rerun election.
She alleges that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) deployed macho men and thugs to disrupt voting at several polling stations, specifically 16 out of 19 stations where the rerun was taking place.
Afriyie claims that the NDC’s actions were designed to suppress voter turnout and reduce her margin of victory. She herself was assaulted, sustaining facial injuries, and one of her agents was also attacked and hospitalized.
Afriyie has urged her supporters to remain courageous and proceed to vote, assuring them that there is enhanced security to protect them. She has also called on the Inspector General of Police to take swift action against the perpetrators of violence.
