A former Chief of Defence Staff, Brigadier Rtd. Joseph Nunoo-Mensah, says a content people births a peaceful nation free from insurgency.

According to him, Ghana can prevent terrorist attack if it puts the interest of the nation first. “The gov’t must take the interest of the people seriously. If the people are having a good time and standard of living is good, then people will resist any attack that will disrupt this freedom.”

The politician advised government against making false promises to its people as it can become a national security threat. “Ghanaians are suffering and if the people are thinking of how to survive, then they are definitely going to protect any insurgent or terrorist who comes into the country.”

In an interview on the Happy Morning Show with Samuel Eshun, Mr. Nunoo-Mensah revealed the threat of terrorists operating in Ghana as real if active steps are not taken. “If Ghanaians are living comfortably, they will not look on for anyone to disrupt the peace and comfort they enjoy in the country. The youth have been responsible for the coups in Guinea and Burkina Faso and we need to take care of them. Gov’t must address the concerns and needs of the youth,” he reiterated.

The National Security Ministry has assured Ghanaians that there is nothing to fear amidst the growing terrorism threats.

According to the Deputy National Security Coordinator, Edward Asomani, the Ministry is on top of the situation.

He stated that the Ministry will do whatever it takes to ensure the nation’s security is not compromised in any way.
