Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu has announced that a joint Cabinet memorandum will be submitted to address the salary delays affecting thousands of newly recruited teachers.

Speaking after receiving a petition from the Coalition of Unpaid Teachers on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, Mr. Iddrisu described the non-payment of 13 months’ salary as “an unfair labour practice” and assured the group of government’s commitment to resolving the issue.

“We are heading to Cabinet with a joint Cabinet memo to make a strong case for recruits. Our estimation is for both GES and TVET, about 53,000 teachers… You will be compensated for it. We are making a case for you.”

The memorandum will be co-signed by Finance Minister Cassiel Ato Forson and aims to secure urgent approval for the payment of arrears, particularly for 6,700 teachers whose recruitment clearance expired in December 2024.

The Coalition, made up of graduates from Colleges of Education and universities, has long protested salary delays, with some members reportedly working for over a year without pay.
