International Diplomatic Consultant, Farouk Al-Wahab has clearly stated that there are no such things as vigilante and extremist groups in Ghana.

His reason being, “vigilante groups only live in bushes and not in houses”.

He believes that in the Ghanaian context, vigilantes are criminals but In other countries like Nigeria, “What vigilante groups do is to speak, fight and disagree against some decisions put in place by the government”.

Using Nigeria’s Boko Haram as an example he said, “I wouldn’t call Boko haram a vigilante group because they belong to a separate movement”.

“They were Nigerian boys trained in Mali to fight against Western education in Nigeria because they wanted every Nigerian child to attend Islamic school but, the government objected so they decided to fight them”.

He finally added that “what the vigilante groups are doing in Ghana is not vigilantism because there is no such thing in the country and if anyone thinks this country will face any chaotic situation during the December 7 polls, the person is a dreamer”.
