Thomas Partey Granted Bail Over Rape and Sexual Assault Charges

Former Arsenal and Ghana international Thomas Partey has been granted conditional bail following his court appearance in London on Tuesday, August 5, where he faces multiple charges of rape and sexual assault.

The 32-year-old footballer is accused of five counts of rape involving two women and one count of sexual assault involving a third woman, with the alleged incidents taking place between 2021 and 2022 during his time with Premier League club Arsenal.

Partey was formally charged on August 1, just days after his contract with Arsenal expired at the end of June 2025. He had been initially arrested in July 2022 but remained active with the club while investigations continued.

According to the Metropolitan Police, the charges stem from an investigation launched in February 2022 following the first report of rape.

Partey’s legal representative, Jenny Wiltshire, has reiterated that he “strongly denies all the allegations” and is eager for the chance to “clear his name through the legal process.”

Detective Superintendent Andy Furphy, who is leading the investigation, emphasized the priority of supporting the survivors, and encouraged anyone with additional information to contact the authorities.

The court did not set a trial date during the brief hearing. Further proceedings are expected in the coming weeks.

As legal proceedings are ongoing, Partey remains presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
