Elsewhere;
On this day 22 February 2013 (Exactly 8 years ago today) Former Black Stars defender, John Paintsil was arrested by the police for allegedly stabbing his wife, Richlove Paintsil.
An eye witness who was at the Legon Police where John Paintsil was held said the deputy Black Stars skipper at the time was brought together with his three kids and were escorted by a group of police men, one armed.
The cause of the misunderstanding wasn’t clear, but the police described the incident as domestic quarrel.
Greater Accra Police PRO Freeman Tettey confirmed to Joy News the arrest of John Paintsil over allegations he stabbed his wife.
He said the former Black Stars defender had been charged for assault and causing body harm.
He also said the wife fell unconscious, rushed to the hospital and was receiving treatment.
But in a dramatic twist the wife told Joy News it was only a domestic quarrel.
She would not go into details on what happened, except to warn the interviewer to respect her rights to privacy.
Richlove Paintsil also cautioned against the publishing or airing of the incident.
She said the police account must not be taken seriously. She said she was heading to the Legon Police where her husband had been held to secure his release.
Communications Director for the Ghana Football Association (GFA) expressed worry over media reports in the matter involving John Paintsil.
Ibrahim Sannie Daara who was at the Legon Police Station with some high profile members of the GFA to secure bail for John Paintsil, said the media report was not the true reflection of what had happened.
Sannie Daara, who was speaking to a section of the media in Accra the following day, was emphatic that the media reports were not accurate.
“We (GFA) want to say that he (John Paintsil) has been released and bailed. We want to state on record that there was no stabbing; the woman (Richlove Paintsil) was not unconscious, she did not jump a wall as reported by some media houses. She only spent a few minutes at the hospital for doctors to check on her,” he said.
Sannie Daara cautioned the media against creating unnecessary hullabaloo over the incident.
“I want to tell the press not to get ahead of time in reporting this matter. We (GFA) are disappointed in some members of the media,” he said.
“Yes, there was an incident but there was no stabbing. Richlove is fine, John is also fine, they have reconciled and are going home together.”
