On this day 19 February 2012 (Exactly 7 years ago) Ghana rained in the goals against Namibia as the Black Princesses cruised to a 7-0 first leg win in the qualifying for the 2012 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.

Coach Robert Sackey’s side finished the first half 4-0 up before scoring three more goals after the break.

Striker Florence Dadson scored a hat-trick as the Black Princesses won convincingly against their opponents who had a player sent off in the first half at the Accra Sports Stadium for blocking a goal bound shot with the arm.

And strikes from captain Priscilla Saahene, Elizabeth Addo, Faustina Ansah and Deborah Afriyie sealed the day for the Black Princesses.

WHAT NEXT?

The Princesses won the second leg 3-0 in Namibia to qualify 10-0 on aggregate to the next stage of the qualifiers.

On 19 February 1910 (Exactly 109 years ago) The first match at Old Trafford was held between Manchester United and Liverpool. Manchester United lost 3-4 to Liverpool, but by the end of their first season at Old Trafford, Man U were crowned League Champions again.

Manchester United had won the final game at Bank Street 5-0 before moving to their new home and at 3-0 up it looked like Ernest Mangnall’s side would secure an inaugural victory in front of 45,000 expectant fans.

However, Tom Watson’s Liverpool, who would finish the 1909-10 season as runners up to Aston Villa, were made of stern stuff.

Right winger Arthur Goddard and inside forward Jimmy Stewart each scored a brace as the Reds fought back to win this seven-goal thriller.

On this day 19 February 1903 (Exactly 116 years) John Arthur “Jack” Johnson KOs Peter Felix in round one in Sydney, Australia. Retained his World Colored Heavyweight title.

NB: Arthur Johnson was 1st African American Heavyweight boxing champion .

The World Colored Heavyweight Championship was a title awarded to black boxers in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. This was the only recognized heavyweight championship available to blacks prior to Jack Johnson winning the world heavyweight title in 1908. The title continued to exist until the reign of Joe Louis as universally recognized champ, as the color bar against black heavyweights was enforced during and for a generation after Jack Johnson’s reign as world champ.
