A 28 year old trader, Dorcas Twene Amankwaa has been jailed five years by an Accra Circuit Court for extorting GHC 402,000 from 97 individuals under the pretext of offering them jobs in Immigration and Fire Service.

The court presided over by Evelyn Asamoah found Dorcas Twene Amankwaa guilty.

During proceedings, the prosecutor explained to the court that in 2021, Dorcas Amankwaa told the complainant, Michael Amoako, an Immigration officer that she is a staff of Jubilee House and had protocol slots so she can recruit people into the Ghana Immigration and National Fire service.

Both of them resided in Nsawam in the Eastern Region.

Dorcas Amankwaa persuaded Michael Amoako to bring interested individuals to be recruited through her protocol slots by paying enlistment fee between GHC 7,000 to GHC 15,000.

Again, the prosecutor said Michael Amoako was able to mobilize interested individuals who paid between GHC 7,000 to GHC 15,000 and gave the money to Dorcas Amankwaa.

After Dorcas Amankwaa received a total of GHC 402,000 from Michael Amoah, she failed to secure jobs for the 97 individuals through her protocol.

Dorcas Amankwaa was arrested on May 4, 2022 to assist the police with investigations.

Dorcas Amankwaa admitted taking the money in her police statement. She was subsequently arraigned before the court and prosecuted.
